Biosecurity

As hoofcare providers and even as horse owners, we see a variety of horses. Even with the best care and management, horses can still get sick with infectious diseases, and we can still run the risk of spreading that to other horses.

A few months ago, we saw an outbreak in the US of EHV-1, which brought the goal of biosecurity to the forefront again. When I was at the AAEP Convention in Colorado last month, I met Dr. Holly Helbig, who has extensive experience in considering biosecurity measures at all levels, from backyard barns to large show grounds. As we were talking, I asked if she would be willing to discuss this on the podcast, and she agreed!
