Equine Fitness

As a hoofcare provider and horse owner, the more I learn about lameness, the more I realize that prevention is exponentially easier than rehab. And the more lameness issues I am presented with, the more I realize that lameness often comes from a build-up of improper movement over time with an unfit hoof, or unfit horse.

While I may be able to talk for hours with basically zero preparation about ways to improve hoof health, overall fitness is something I go to the experts for. So when I noticed Jec Ballou came out with a book on fitness exercises for horses, I reached out to see if she would chat with me about ways we can improve fitness in our horses – since it’s the best way to prevent lameness – both in horses starting work, and those coming back from rehab (whether hoof or otherwise!).

You can hear the entire conversation on any podcast app under “The Humble Hoof,” or directly at this link.
