Safety With Power Tools

In the horse world, most people know what a rasp, pair of nippers, and hoof knife are, and how they are used during hoofcare appointments in trimming or shoeing. Some owners might not know that some professionals – especially in more dry climates – also often use power tools like angle grinders to trim hooves. Whether you choose to use power tools, or do “manual trims,” safety always comes first when working with the horse.

Jim Apple, who has been a hoofcare professional for going on 46 years now, chatted with me about how he incorporates power tool use in his business, and ways he keeps the horse and himself safe when working.
