Lameness Rehab: More than Just Handwalking

Rehabbing a lame horse isn’t for the faint of heart. Any of us that have done it know about the “rehab rollercoaster” – the ups and downs that come along with working through an injury, hoof issues, or even just time off.

So how do we know we are doing right by the horse, and what variables should we consider in these cases?

Dr. Sherry Johnson, board certified in Equine Sports Medicine Rehabilitation, gave some incredible talks at this year’s NAEP Saratoga Vet & Farrier Conference, and I chatted with her after about everything from considerations in lameness rehab, how to prevent reinjury, what kind of things we should be focusing on ABOVE the hooves, and more.

You can hear the entire conversation on any podcast app under “The Humble Hoof,” or directly at this link.
