Understanding Hoof Radiographs

When dealing with a lameness or rehabilitation case, veterinarians are typically involved to offer diagnostics, evaluations, and most commonly, radiographs.

As a horse owner or even a professional hoofcare provider, it can be important to familiarize ourselves with what we are looking on a radiograph, especially as owners deal with their horses’ hooves daily, and hoofcare providers are in the trenches of trimming or applying packages to the hooves.

I often see comments on social media about the quality of radiographs sent to them, or confusion about what they show or what to do about it. I asked Dr. Martina Neidhart if she would chat with me about some radiograph basics, so owners and professionals can be more prepared to have conversations with veterinarians and work with them on these difficult cases.

You can hear the entire conversation on any podcast app under “The Humble Hoof,” or directly at this link.
