Keeping Ourselves Fit: Preventing Injury for Hoofcare Pros and Riders

I think it would be hard to find a hoofcare professional or rider who didn’t have aches and pains somewhere in their body. The nature of working with horses often means we overwork, overuse certain muscles, and can even cause repetitive strain injuries due to habits and lifestyle.

Because of our predisposition to “beat up our bodies” in the horse world, I reached out to James Shaw, a riding teacher and biomechanics aficionado, to talk to me about what happens when we find ourselves with nagging pain (or even severe pain), and how to correct and rehabilitate the problem. He discusses some changes we can start making to see a difference in our comfort level.
