We always talk about all the factors that affect hoof health and soundness. We know that hoof balance can affect movement, and we know that movement can also affect wear patterns and hoof balance. Conformation can certainly affect a horse’s movement, but did you know that saddle fit plays a huge role in how a ridden horse moves as well? Even the most balanced rider in a poor fitting saddle will result in an imbalanced horse. For example, maybe that “high/low” horse might not be so high/low with better movement.
Since saddle fit isn’t my forte, I reached out to Terri Beecher of Out West Saddlery to chat about common saddle fit issues she sees and how we can work to correct them. You can hear the entire conversation on your favorite podcast app under “The Humble Hoof,” or directly at this link.
